On March 8th, I sent this email to some friends…

My email w/r/t Trayvon Martin:

The only thing surprising to me here is that these people haven’t started using the ol’ rape apology of choice “He was dressed like he wanted it…If he had only been dressed as Carlton Banks, I would have known he was one of the good ones.”

And on March 23rd, this happened:

Geraldo Rivera:

But I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly to not let their children go out wearing hoodies. I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.

The point is - conservatives, republicans, fox news, rape apologists, general misogynists, racists, etc. etc. etc. are just all so fucking predictable. It’s like they’re following a fucking text.

Victim blaming will always beget victim blaming. As long as we can blame victims for rape, blaming victims for their own murders will always be seen as logically acceptable/equivalent. I just hope people who are inclined to say “Well, why was she wearing that short skirt?” will read/see/hear Geraldo’s comments and realize how absurd that line of “thinking” is.

I wasn’t allowed back to the apartment because they were searching it and the media was parked out there. Then, a bit later, as I was driving, they announced on the radio that there were 13 kids wounded and two kids killed. That was it for me. I was in my little car just bawling my eyes out in agony and distress. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe Andy had done this.
Finally, it was revealed during today’s proceedings that employees at the Apple Store next door to the Lululemon shop heard Murray pleading for her life as they closed their store, but did not contact the authorities. They are expected to testify on behalf of the prosecution.
